For people who like fried chicken, KFC is heaven. The tender and juicy chicken clubbed with the Colonel’s spice mix makes for a lip-smacking recipe— at least for meat lovers out there…
But due to the recent global shift in healthier food choices and increased awareness surrounding healthy eating amongst consumers, this major fast food chain may be gearing itself up for a revamped menu with healthier and lighter options.
As per reports, the company aims to cut 20pc of calories from its menu by 2025 and is set to launch vegan recipes by end of this year. KFC’s Innovation Director Jack Hinchcliffe was quoted talking to Telegraph, saying:
“Veganism as a trend has really blown up. We’re currently in the process of working on both vegetarian and vegan options in the innovation kitchen here in our head office.”
Hinchcliffe wasn’t clear about what the vegan options would look like, but did mention that developing recipes would mean that his team needs to be very credible, authentic and genuine while developing them.
“A bean patty would not cut the mustard. That lets down vegans, he added.
“For us it’s about taking the amazing tastes of KFC and offering those in a vegetarian or vegan alternative.”
The brand will be trialling these new vegan options in restaurants starting later this year according to Hinchcliffe.
It is great knowing that KFC has already started taking the right steps towards a vegan friendly menu.
